My husband, Nathaniel, is a phenomenal father to our two daughters. Though rough, manly, and an outdoors enthusiast, he is a gentle and caring father. I just love the way he treats the girls, often taking them on daddy-daughter dates, giving them his undivided attention when he walks through the door after work, and singing to them before bed every night. Having always treated me like a queen, Nathaniel also models for our girls what being a loving husband should be. So to honor Nathaniel as a father, the girls and I put together a fishing-themed Father’s Day gift basket for him! And it’s the perfect timing too. . . . Nathaniel is planning a fishing/canoe trip this summer!

Rough & Manly
Nathaniel would rather be outside than inside. Even on wintry, Minnesota days, you can find Nathaniel hiking outside in the woods in his leisure time. Forget lounging on the couch with a bag a chips! He would rather be scaling a mountain, carving up the snow on his snowboard, restoring his 1985 CJ7 Jeep with a welder, backflipping off a cliff into water, moving his way through a pine forest, building something with his power tools, or casting a fishing rod from a canoe.
Since we met, Nathaniel has taken me on many adventures, some of which include snorkeling in Costa Rica, camping at Yellowstone, and skiing at Sundance. And since becoming a father, Nathaniel has found joy including our girls on his trips.
Gentle & Caring
By looking at his big, callused hands you might not guess that Nathaniel is as soft and tender as he is. I have fallen in love with him all over again every time I have watched Nathaniel gently rock our baby to sleep, carefully pick dandelions with our toddler, and lovingly walk hand-in-hand with both our girls.
Some people might think gentleness is weakness. They couldn’t be more wrong! I have seen the strength a father brings to his family when he can find that balance between tough and soft, rough and loving. And to me, that is what a true man should be! I am grateful for Nathaniel for being that for me and our girls.

I headed straight to Walgreens to pick up two different kinds of Nautica cologne:

I would describe Nautica Blue as crisp, energetic, and timeless–perfect for day or night. With notes of Jasmine, Watery Violet, and Cedarwood, the fragrance reminds me of walking through the woods.
Nautica Voyage is crisp, bright, and aquatic, with a fruit-forward scent. It reminds me of Nathaniel’s happy and adventurous personality with fragrance notes of Fresh Cut Apple, Unique Sail Cloth, and Woody Amber.
The Perfect Fishing Snacks
When you’re out on the water, all you want are some low-maintenance snacks that’ll keep your energy up and your stomach full. That is why we chose to give Nathaniel the following treats:

The Perfect Rustic Decorations
Going with our fishing theme, we decided to use some rustic touches, including a metal bucket with wooden handle, a wood slice, and mason jars.
We also chose to implement colors you might find on the water: different shades of blue, white, silver, and splashes of aqua and green. I love the way the silver reflects light just as a glassy lake surface would!
The Perfect Fishing-Themed Father’s Day Gift Basket
I can’t get enough of how our fishing-themed Father’s Day gift basket for Nathaniel came together! It was so “him” and so fun to create. The best part though was seeing his face when we jumped out (literally) and surprised him with it!
