Last year, my 4-year-old saw the firefighter costume at Costco and decided that’s what he wanted to be for Halloween. Knowing there might not be another year where the whole family could be talked into doing a group costume, I rolled with it created a firefighter group costume idea by adding three other costumes to the theme: fire, a house, and a Dalmatian.

Firefighter Group Costume Details
Firefighter Halloween Costume
This is the exact costume he got from Costco. (There are a bunch of options on Amazon if you want to look there too.) His fireman jacket and pants costume also came with a whistle, axe, helmet, and walkie-talkie thing. We rubbed some charcoal-colored eyeshadow on his face here and there and he looked like (…a mini version of…) the real deal.
Dalmatian Halloween Costume
My almost-2-year-old daughter loved this cute Dalmatian costume from Amazon. It was soft, cozy, easy to button up (buttons are snaps). We put a little eyeliner on her nose so she looked more like a puppy, and she looked the part.
DIY Fire Halloween Costume
My fire costume was easier to execute than I thought it would be. I found everything I needed at Michael’s (an arts and crafts store). I wanted to use a mix of red, orange, and yellow so I found a bit of each to add. With a plain orange t-shirt, a red tulle skirt, some yellow tulle strips, and a red feather boa, I think I looked pretty firey. For the final touch, I put on some yellow eyeshadow and rosy red blush.
DIY House Halloween Costume
My husband didn’t want an elaborate Halloween costume, so I made him something he could quickly just slip on over his regular clothes. The perfect costume compromise because I did all the prep work and he just had to wear the thing haha.
This costume was the most work of the bunch. It took me probably a couple of hours to make–it’d be faster for you if you’re copying this idea because half the time I was figuring out what it should look like.
I found a brown trifold poster board at the dollar store and cut off the “roof” part of the top on each side so the middle came to a point. I also made holes and tied a ribbon through them so my husband could hang it around his neck. (The pic below is of the backside of the poster. Make sure you orient the poster so that the sides fold in toward the body.)
Then I taped on a paper door and window boxes. I cut flowers out of paper and used white tissue paper behind the window panes. I happened to have little plastic leaves on hand, but these could easily be cut out of green paper. FYI, I made my paper planter boxes pop out a bit so they looked a little more 3D.
Then I made a little stencil from thicker paper, took a red marker, and went to town make little “bricks” on the poster board. In hindsight, it would have been way faster using red paint and a sponge. So while you’re at the craft store pick up some of that too. (And do the brick pattern before you add the door and windows.)
All said and done, it was a unique and easy DIY Halloween costume.
Don’t you think this was a cute group Halloween costume idea for four? If we had another body to put a costume on I would have made a firetruck. And another person could have been water.
