I love organization. It’s true! Back in the day, I used to work as a professional organizer and helped people get their homes purged and organized. Almost as much as I love organizing, I love sharing those organization tips with you guys! (Like when I wrote this post on how to create an effective daily to-do list.) I’ve come to discover that sooo many people want to get more organized, and toddlers are no different!

My 3-year-old toddler is going to school (preschool) for the first time this fall and he is super excited! He can’t read a to-do list yet, but he still wants to be organized when the school year starts. So, I’m here to share how we can use G2® Pens and FriXion® Pens by Pilot Pen from Michaels to create a toddler-friendly weekly to-do list chart for our little ones.

How to Make a Toddler-Friendly Weekly To-Do List

Gather Your Supplies

To get our supplies, we headed to Michaels. Michaels is awesome! It’s my go-to store for crafts and all-things creative. We picked up some G2 and FriXion pens in aisle 45 in the Gel Pens section. G2 and FriXion are both brands of Pilot Pen and are perfect for the upcoming school year and everyday use to help you and your kids get organized.

Plan Out Toddler’s Daily & Weekly Activities

Before creating your toddler-friendly weekly to-do list, you will want to jot down all of your toddler’s daily to-do’s and weekly activities.

The daily to-do’s: My son’s morning to-do’s includes activities like get dressed, make his bed, brush his teeth, etc. Being able to accomplish these every day helps my son feel in control of his morning and helps us all get out the door in time for his school. Win, win!

The weekly activities: There are some activities that won’t happen every day, but my toddler still wants to know about them and look forward to them. For example, on Sundays we go to church, on Tuesdays and Thursdays he has school, on Wednesdays he has swimming, and on Friday we have Movie Pizza Night. Including these key activities in your toddler’s to-do list calendar will help them start to understand the days of the week and what to anticipate for the coming day.

Create the Main Framework

Now that you have your plan, draw out your framework with permanent days of the week along the top. If you want to use the chart outline that I made, feel free to download it by clicking the “download” button below, and then print off a copy.

Also add permanent daily to-do’s along the side, and permanent weekly activities under the appropriate day.

Keep the to-do list chart toddler friendly by using pictures (or a combination or pictures and words to help your toddler with word recognition) instead of just words.

Also, a reminder for you: Don’t stress the small stuff. Perfection in this toddler-friendly weekly to-do list chart is not the point! Your toddler won’t notice if all of your lines are straight or your pictures look perfect. They will just be happy to get some structure and organization.

Let Your Toddler Check the Boxes

Now that your toddler-friendly weekly to-do list chart is built out, hand a FriXion Pen over to your toddler. Teach them how to put an X (or their initials, or a smiley face, or whatever you’d like!) in the right box when they have accomplished a task on their to-do list.

Of course, they might need some supervision and guidance, but overall they will love the independence that comes from working through their to-do list themselves.

FYI, I used washi tape to secure my son’s to-do chart to a stiffer backing so he could easily pick it up and move it around. You could also tape yours to the fridge, have it on their desk, or put it in a spot they will be able to see it every day.
