Halloween is around the corner, and we all know what that means: a bunch of people dressed up as cats and nudists on strike. Let’s be real, those are costumes that are over done, but they are so easy to do that people can’t help themselves.
We know what you’re saying. . . . “I’m not willing to fork over the big bucks for a halloween costume, nor am I willing to spend a bunch of time making one.” Well, don’t worry. We’ve got a solution. Put your cat costume away and keep reading because below are 8 ideas for unique, cheap, and easy halloween costumes.
8 Easy DIY Halloween Costume Ideas
1. The Cool Side of the Pillow
Strap a pillow to your front, throw on a pair of sunglasses, and act cool. . . especially when posing for pictures. Ideas for acting cool: flash peace signs, strut around, chew gum, etc. Have fun with it! Optional: Wear pajamas under the pillow instead of your normal clothes.
2. A Black Olive
Dress in all black and attach a Pearl’s black olive can label to your shirt. If you have a black beret hat, that would give your costume a nice touch. (See the picture at the top of this post to see how cute Aubri looked in this costume last year for Halloween!)
3. An Airhead
Pick a flavor of Airheads candy that you want to dress up as: cherry, blue raspberry, grape, orange, strawberry, green apple, pink lemonade, or watermelon. (In the image below, it shows a cherry flavored airhead, but feel free to pick your favorite.) Dress in the color of the flavor you selected. Pick up a helium balloon in that color as well, draw the Airheads smiley face onto it, and have it floating just above your head. Draw, or print out and pin, the Airheads flavor and logo onto your shirt.
4. A Bar of Dove Soap
Dress in all white and draw in navy blue (or print out and pin) the Dove logo onto your shirt. To take the costume up a notch, you can wear a shower cap and/or carry a loofah with you.
5. A Hershey’s Kiss
Dress in all brown and draw (or print out and pin) the Hershey’s logo onto your shirt. Wear bright red lipstick and pucker up for pictures. Optional ideas: Wear silver accents (like jewelry, etc.) to mimic the Hershey’s Kisses wrapper. Wear a white streamer around your head that says, “Kisses” on it to mimic the little paper that comes out of the top of Hershey’s Kisses.
6. A Walking Thesaurus
Dressing up as a nerd is indubitably easy. . . glasses with tape in the middle, suspenders, hair in pigtails, shirt tucked in. Take that costume idea up a notch by being a walking thesaurus. Write some synonyms on your shirt. (You can use Halloween themed words like in the picture below.) Carry a thesaurus around with you and you’re good to go.
7. The American Flag
Dress in red, white, and blue. If you can, wear a blue shirt and pin a white star (or all 50 if you’re feeling up to the task) onto it, and then wear red pants and white shoes. Carry around a little American flag. This is just a guideline, so get creative and change up the look or wear any Americana themed accessories that you have.
8. An Oreo
Dress in all white. Draw (or print out and pin) the Oreo logo onto your shirt. Using black paper, cut out big circles and attach them to your front and back. If you’re feeling up to it, you can use white crayon to color your black circles and make them look even more like an Oreo cracker.
A unique and last-minute Halloween costume is doable on a budget. Hopefully this list gave you a cheap, unique, and easy idea for your next Halloween costume!
