My family is all about the snacks. We’ve got two little kids right now, and eating between meals is just our reality. That said, it’s super easy to just grab the nearest/easiest thing. (For us that used to mean fruit snacks until we hid them in my our office for just my husband to snack on.) This usually happens because I don’t know what else to grab or I haven’t planned ahead well. So here’s to me trying harder by coming up with healthy snack ideas!
Please note: I am not a dietitian or healthy-food expert. When I say “healthy snack ideas” I mean that I think they are healthy for me and my family right now. What is healthy for us may not be healthy for you (consult your doctor if you have questions). But I came up with a list of healthy snack ideas for my family and decided to share them with you in case you find it helpful too.
Healthy Snack Ideas List
1. Applesauce
Costco applesauce to-go packs for the win! Out of all the snacks in our healthy snack ideas list, this one is a favorite at our house.
2. Ants on a log
Fill the gap of a celery with peanut butter and add a line of raisins on top It looks like ants walking on a log.
3. Apple slices dipped in peanut butter
I think smooth peanut butter is especially good here.
4. Banana slices smeared with peanut butter
I’d go with crunchy peanut butter here if you’ve got it, to give this snack more texture. If you want a more substantial snack, put peanut butter and banana slices on bread.
5. Cucumber slices dipped in hummus
Or another raw vegetable like carrots, bell pepper sticks, celery, etc. works too.
6. Pita bread dipped in hummus
7. Grapes and a cheese stick
8. Frozen banana popsicle
Put a peeled, ripe banana on a popsicle stick and stick it in the freezer for a few hours. Or, cut up a peeled, ripe banana and spread the slices out on a plate and them freeze to make banana popsicle bites.
9. Green smoothie
Our go-to recipe we throw in the blender: one very ripe banana, a cup of frozen blueberries or cherries, a giant handful of spinach, a splash of almond milk, and a cup or so of water.
10. Hard boiled egg
11. Multigrain tortilla chips dipped in salsa
Costco has great Multigrain chips.
12. Greek yogurt
13. Trail mix
Make sure the nuts aren’t too big or hard for your little one. You don’t want them chocking! You can make your own trail mix with healthy cereals, raisins, etc. Here is a good kid-friendly recipe.
14. Craisins
We get a bulk bag at Costco and they last a while!
15. Pretzel sticks dipped in greek yogurt
16. Honey toast
Toast spread with butter and honey. Toast with peanut butter is also good.
17. Raisins
Buy in bulk and grab and handful, or get the individual-sized little raisin boxes.
18. Blackberries
Or really you can do any fruit plain: a clementine, watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, blueberries, etc. Is there anything better?
19. Sugar-free banana muffins
20. Carrot sticks
We call these “super skinny snakes” and my 3-year-old boy loves them.
21. Sliced Swiss cheese squares
My 18-month old goes crazy over this snack.
Hopefully this healthy snack ideas list gives you some great ideas for easy, healthy snacks to feed your kids. Now excuse me while I go get my kids another snack. I think we’ll go with a green smoothie this time 😉
